Our Project D18S
This how she looked when we dove in and bought her. Yes, her. She is based at Janes Field so we call her Jane.
COOOOL!
Huh. Radios?
Needs a little attention!
Before stripping interior.
We call this a mouse condo….
In the hangar and ready to start…
Well as you can see we have moved along a bit on our project and with the help of the local EAAers have removed the Horiz. stab and the outer wing panels. No surprises, just a lot of dirt and dust. Whats next? Dunno. I will roll her out of the hangar when it gets warm enough here in MN and power wash the entire thing, followed by new hardware Primer, corrosion control and whatever else we can afford. Can you say money pit !!
Wings removed.
Test Area to clean up the oxidation.
Might as well keep going
And going
And going. This is only the start
Everything out and Ready for cleaning, priming, etc
Still not pretty, but way better than before. This may take the rest of life!
Sooo much work! Removing 30 years of oxidation, old paint, and stuff. This is only step one with many more to go. The tail section is all empty and we started cleaning it, getting ready for pressure washing and priming. All hardware, pulleys, etc are being replace with new. After that we will start putting it back together. Horizontal stab is next. I’ll keep you posted.
